This is a good topic and it may worth having its own thread.
I don't know what has been going on with our football in the past 30-35 years that almost all of our footballers are physically small and tiny. I realize that Iranians in general are smaller and have less of a heavy built in comparison with most europeans or north americans, but if you look at our players in the 70s and even in the early 80s, we used to be much more physically strong. For example, if you look at the 1978 TM, you will not see anyone the size of Kaabi or Mahini in the team. We used to have many tall and physically strong players. Almost 2/3 of the team was over 6 foot tall!
I think part of the problem comes from the fact that the sport of football in Iran is just not promoting the notion of good player is a player with skills and build. Teams recurit small and skinny players if they demonstrate some skills and put little emphasis on physical requriements of the sport.
90 percent of our so called good players fail to secure a place in europe, even at 2nd or 3rd division teams, becuase they don't have the required physique to compete. I am sure you have watch Ibrahamovich .. and how he uses his build to his advantage. Can you imainge him playing against Iran? we don't even have a defender who can come close to a guy his size. Did someone said Mahini ????? :-) He will be ran over without anyone noticing!!
And it is not that we don't have athletes in Iran with good build. If you look at our volleyball or basketball team, you see we have many. They are just not coming for football, becuase football is preceived to be the game of short and small people in Iran.
This mentality need to change in Iran and it all rests on clubs to start the process.

I wish for a day when every Iranian is free.

why isnt ansarifard with them?
I see a lot of talent in this team, out of which at least 4-5 of them can join team melli in a year or so

ansarifard is in U23 i think, not U22. that's just a guess though. i don't even know if there are 2 seperate teams for 22 and 23.

Sad to see a our youth wanting to look like a bunch of poofters than to build size and muscle. There goes our proud pahlavan heritage.....(p.s. can we blame this on IR too?![]()
I think its pathetic that we are the only nation on EARTH that has another language on our flag. Down with the Islamic Arab Republic of Iran!!

i dont get it..is mansourian U21 COACH or U22? last week I saw him in Italy with U21

I don't know why people are complaining about the physique of our team. They look great being U-22. Most of them are taller than Mansourian. For crying out loud, must we complain about e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g?! I don't think anybody knocks on Messi, Iniesta, or Rooney for being small. Their skill and talent overcomes their lack of physique.
"Hate no one, no matter how much they’ve wronged you. Live humbly, no matter how wealthy you've become. Think positively, no matter how hard life gets. Give, even if you’ve been given little. Keep in touch with the ones who have forgotten you. Forgive those who have wronged you and do not stop praying for the best for those you love." -Imam Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (as)
