I still would prefer if they chose Iran.
With that being said, I can understand how some people would chose another country at that age. While both of my parents are Iranian but being born in the US, during my mid to late teens I fantasized about playing for the US in the 1994 World Cup. Today looking back I would have seriously regretted it if I had actually been able to do it.
you my friend are proud to be an iranian , some hide behind other countries because they are unaware of their powerful heritage culture and history,

just wanted to let those people who criticize the people who said yes know that by me agreeing to follow him as nothing to do with being unaware of my own country. lol its really funny how people most of the times get everything mixed up together. i follow them bc i agree they are iranian and that is all. i was born in the azari part of iran and there is nothing wrong with liking azarbaijan(country) and feeling close to them bc they have the same culture, yet in fact azarbaijan and iran are the same country.

Who cares about Sweden? They are our opponent when it comes to Football. Somewhat better than us but they can easily lose to us as Denmark, Russia or Slovaks does. These teams are always are our competition. If he played for a power house like Italy, Germany, Brazil or France or England ... it was a different story NO WAY SUPPORTING SWEDEN ... Just my opinion ..

I wont support Sweden in Euro 2012, only because I dont follow the team, not a fan, thats it, not because Behrang Safari plays for them.

firstly : azarbaijani is not a nationality is a ethnic identity from arian race part of the nation of Iran. the country north of iran which you are referring to, its correct name is ARAN, the soviets changed its name to azarbaijan so they can easily fool the masses and separate the iranain provinces south of Aran. which is the azarbaijan provinces of iran.

secondly: America is a country and its people are called Americans

(the airport security comment I was referring to another comment made by other friends in this thread, regarding multiculturalism and global village)

many always mix things such as nationality, ethnic identity, and language,

and yes u are correct about it being ethnicity as well, but its also a nationality...those from azarbaijan say they are from azarbaijan when asked bc its their country. the country is developing pretty nicely they have their own flag too.. u want to see it? u can just google
