one can choose what country to represent, its a free world but you cant call your self proud iranain if you have allegiance to another country, those that support him are probably feeling the same way behrang safari does.
thats why they attack the proud iranians like ...

I know very well about Iranian history, and seeing how im half azeri trust me i know about the azeris.

What I was trying to point out is stop living in the past, Azeris of the Republic of Azerbaijan do not see themself as Iranian.

Let me tell you this, I Would represnt Sweden if I could and not Iran. If i played football. Because im not ready to put my foot in a country where the Islamic Republic is the government. See this is just 1 reason out of hundreds why exile Iranians would choose to say no to Team Melli. Cause you dont just represent Team MElli you get the whole package that being ahmadinejad visiting the trainings and so on

there is a reason these iranians are called exile iranians. they left iran because of someone.

I understand your point of view (though I do not agree with it), but on that flipe side of the coin if you are rooting for Team Melli arent you indirectly rooting for Islamic Republic?

Well lets say it like this. Dont mix football with politics. They play for Iran and IR. Not only IR. I dont like the whole coin but 50% of the coin is the reason why im still here.

and then again its not the same thing supporting a team and playing for that team. Playing for Iran means you have to travel in and out of Iran.

Supporting Iran means you dont even have to visit Iran if you dont want to.

    Thank you!

The options presented don't make any sense, and are irrelevant to the thread question. Anybody who FOLLOWS football will support his/her favorite team (in our case TM and maybe perhaps a favorite top European side in the Euro), but that doesn't mean they will completely give up on Iran.. I think this thread is just a TAD directed at Safari lol. I think the title should be changed to "Will you support Sweden even though Safari is playing for them?"

Safari's case is an example of an Iranian playing for another national team. So those who say they'd support Iranians playing for other national teams should be supporting Safari for Sweden, right?

With that being said, I can understand how some people would chose another country at that age. While both of my parents are Iranian but being born in the US, during my mid to late teens I fantasized about playing for the US in the 1994 World Cup. Today looking back I would have seriously regretted it if I had actually been able to do it.
never mind the parents nationality theory , he was Fking born in iran! looooooool His got a iranian name , iranian passport , iranian blood , Iranian Family (back home), and yet he joins Sweden .
