With Rahmati we have a better keeper in Team Melli as I would ever have dared to wish for, but I am a bit concerned about his reserves.
In Gordan and Haghighi we had acceptable backups, but Gordan is currently benched at Zob Ahan it seems and Haghighi will get little match praxis in the coming months or even years.
Without those two, I barely see alternatives who are really reliable. Hamed Lak of Saba, our recent Omid keeper, might be an interesting option, but it's hard to judge him with Saba games barely being shown.
Mirzapour, Ahmadi, Talebloo & Co. aren't really what I would hope for. Agil Etemadi only sits on the bench, with Mohsen Foroozan playing, but his blunder leading to the first (wrong) pk today didn't quite increase my trust in him.
Any other options on the cards?

its too early to judge this hooshyar guy but from the game today, i saw he had good confidence and was commanding his penalty box well and this coming from a recently joint 2nd division GK to a giant team like perspolis and bossing all those egiostic players impressed me. his reflexes seemed decent as well, although he wasnt tested enough and we have to see him in long run.
misagh memarzadeh has a good age, good physique as well and has confidence and i used to have hopes for him, but he has been poor this year.

how is Gordan being benched..??injured.?
PP should jump on transferring him then..!!
it was very mature move of haghighi to settle for less money and make difficult move to Kazan..!! i think with proper guidance and some attitude check he will become a beast of keeper for TM for years to come..!! he may even challenge Rahmati by the time WC14 comes around..!! i just hope he will get some action in reserves league or friendlies or practice matches, etc..!

i dont rate gordan very high, specially his mental stability and decision making. he is a mixture of nosrati and mirzapour in my opinion.

^ lol, I like both of them, so maybe that's why I like Gordan too. For me Gordan proved he was Iran's number one. But having lost his space to this Sadeghi guy, he can't really be a TM option, at least not for very long, unless he wins his spot back.
After the 0-3 to Saipa he was replaced by Sadeghi btw, who played three games since then...

Despite being the no.1 choice in Team Melli , I really do not have a lot of confidence in Rahmati. I particularly think his well known weakness ( mistiming coming out for crosses + difficulty holding balls and excessive punching) is costing the teams he plays for dearly.
Gordan has for some reason , lost his touch. Sadeghi was the youth Team Goalkeeper and he is not a bad keeper at all. Of course his young age is always a setback , but he has already showed his goods.
I would not count Haghighi out although lack of match practice could be a concern.
I don't know if it is one of those oddball situations , but it seems that it is not a good period for Goalkeepers in Iran. I just hope it is a temporary thing.

GK has become our biggest shortcoming and concern nowadays. We barely see any GK in IPL making amazing saves and avoid ridiculous blunders and screwups. Many of the keepers who used to be decent and reliable have been on a decline, including Rahmati who has always had his own flaws and shortcomings mainly being his exits and how he punches/blocks long range shots etc.

I don't understand all the Rahmati critisicm to be honest. I cannot think of a better Iranian keeper in the last decade, nor do I remember a single big blunder of him in TM jersey. Even the Bahrain goal he was critisized for was more a good save than a mistake.
I also don't consider the current goalkeeping era as a weak one, there were times when a Mirzapour, a Fanaei, a Nakisa, a Roudbarian or a Gholampour were the best available choice. Now we have many keepers better than them at once.
We are just in a situation were some of the established keepers are not really playing, while the young ones filling their spots haven't established themselves enough yet to deserve a call-up.

Gordan used to be close with Khalatbari. Have you noticed since the latter left, both Zob Ahan's table position, as well as Gordan's performance have much worsened? I honestly think Shahab should follow his compatriot (Khalatbari) to the UAE league. They can both play for Maradona which is neat.
