Alireza Jahanbakhsh @ Brighton & Hove Albion | 2018-2019

Does anyone else think that Ghoddos might have been a better signing specifically for Brighton than Jahanbakhsh?

I'm actually surprised that Ghoddos didn't get more attention given the british media loved his performance against Arsenal in the Europa League, he doesn't need a visa/work permit etc, Graham Potter had quite a few contacts in the UK ... and whereas JB is only really a right-wing who can switch sides if needs be, Ghoddos can play effectively on either wing, attacking midfield, support striker and centre forward roles with seemingly equal effectiveness.

Well we were linked to him because of his preformance against Arsenal (Along with other Premier Clubs)... God knows what happened to that, still surprised we didn’t go for him in the summer :/

west ham and leicester and wolves were all interested supposedly. But ghoddos is doing his own thing in france and im sure he will get a great transfer soon. Hopefully never to brighton. LOL

I think Ghoddos did a great job of identifying a team in a bigger league where no doubt he would be a starter. He will shine here and his next contact would be with a bigger team. I think JB is young enough that he would have been better served going to a league like Bundesliga or Seria A and would have been an undisputed day one starter.

Haha true, he has to be the best transfer in terms of transfer compatibility this summer. That 4k retweets on Ghoddos jersey on Twitter speaks for itself. Tbh I’m just glad we finally got a legionnaire in Ligue 1 who is easily going to start with no problems against PSG.

Brighton's problem away from home is getting players into the opposing penalty area. I think the answer is getting one of the "wingers" further forward into the channels.

100% Couldn't agree with you more BUT, the problem is the formation and the tactics the coach is showing. BHAFC plays very defensive, there is never anyone in the box even with crosses.

4-3-3 would MUCH MORE suit this team in my opinion

4-3-3 is my favoured formation, but quite frankly, the current Albion team isn't good enough in midfield for it. Even Newcastle with Shelvey and Hayden would be a bit of a struggle, Diame not so much. Kenedy and Ritchie could expect to play wide for them in a 4-4-1-1.

I hope Bruno plays for Brighton as his overlaps help a lot. 4-3-3 can be played in a handful of ways but I like it with a midfielder that is above the average like a Milner, Pogba, David Silva or Doucouré, the four that have given us most trouble this season.

Houghton and Rafa are from the same era as managers and are well matched for style.

Brighton needs a better central midfielder, the two current ones (Stephens, Propper and Gross) are not strong enough! If anything I think Bissouma actually plays a better role there but he's still young and makes plenty of mistakes! Frankly I personally think that March needs to be replaced as well to play a 4-3-3.

Clubs understandably do not want to get rid of their best midfielders. Target missed was Thomas Delaney, who went to Borussia Dortmund, but even he would not enable a 4-3-3, but just be better on the left hand side in a 4-4-1-1.

Current:

Dale Stephens has not adapted to the Premier League as well as expected and has done better.
Davy Pröpper has lost possession too much in some games this season.
Yves Bissouma grabbed his chance better than Alireza Jahanbakhsh against Southampton in the League Cup
Pascal Groß covers a lot of ground, but sees his goal attempts saved. (not one of the central pair midfielders)
Beram Kayal can hold his own until it comes to goalscoring.
Sixth (for 4-3-3) midfielder: missing.

Dale Stephens is the best prospect, but falls short of top six competiveness through lack of speed and technical shortcomings, but most of all through lack of support of bodies in midfield. i.e. he would show better with a heavyweight partner in the middle, or drop a winger and have an extra body to make up the numbers.

I don't think CH is overly defensive compared to the other 13. Playing two wingers is not. Lack of numbers in the middle makes for longer passes. Passing and possosession ended up middle of the table last season.
