1. Arguably our best player Ghoddos is warming the bench, in our most crucial match and didn't play last match either.

Is this guy in a coma? I don't care if he is 20-0 this doesn't make sense.
EDIT: Ghoddos has played PERFECTLY every match he has come in, It isn't like he is being scrutinized for a bad performance. Skocic seems to be rewarding bad performers and punishing good ones.

I don't care if he was 9-0 or whatever.. All of those opponents were against much inferior teams.. Whenever we play someone to our level like Korea, he gets exposed.. He is not a TM material coach.. Even Yahya would have been better..
However, we can't make a coaching change at this point. He has gotten us results and its a results driven business.. Hopefully after WC, a change will be made.
Question for the more knowledgeable fans, is Ghoddos somewhat fluent in Persian? I would like to know if he is able to communicate with the rest of the team well. I just don't get why he doesn't get the start, or get subbed in. Skocic could've brought him in for Gholi's replacement. Ghoddos played fantastic against Syria, granted I know he was positioned as a midfielder for that game, but today he could've been subbed for Gholi and played as a winger. So frustrating that we have firepower on the bench and isn't getting used. Prior matches, I thought Skocic was doing a decent job with his subs, today it was extremely frustrating when you could clearly tell we needed fresh legs to keep the pressure on.
Should beat South Korea 2-0 in Tehran. 1-1 is not an acceptable result... back to the drawing board. Team e' Melli needs to hire assistant coaches for improving both the offensive and the defensive tactics.

@ least he is pragmatic in his game approaches & plays mostly to our strengths & doesn’t try to revolutionize our overall successful game approaches from long CQ’s tenure & for most part plays the strongest squad available to him ..!
But yea, we have the squad strength & potential to be a far more formidable WC participant once we qualified with a coach like that of Saudi's.!
But even him gonna need at least a few months in charge (3-4 challenging friendlies & at least 2-3 weeklong prep camps) prior to WC to get his ideas through & game strategies properly implemented..! & let me tell you what …! AINT GONNA HAPPEN ..!
Be happy with status quo or be prepared to be even more disappointed..!

dont know if his tactics are play safe first to get an advantage in second half aka coaches half.
if he goes in with good tacitc first half the opponents coach will have a chance to adopt to it in second.
but if he goes in with status que in first half he can surrprise the other side with a tactic in second, like today / combined with korea choking trying to defend 1-0 in 40 minutes with lack of tactics.
im not saying its a good tactic, but seems he is a good cup coach so thats maybe why he does this tactics.. saving subs to 90 min maybe its a reflex that he thinks the games going in to overrtime lmao
he should fix the defence, aka better pressure not 11 men standing infront of own penalty area and giving the opponents plenty of time on the ball, no perssure at all.. im surprised the koerans didnt do better.. i remember what messi did when he got 2 seconds with no pressure in world cup against us, now we didnt press att all in first half.. and make subs earlier, then im happy

we need to fix the non existing perssure in defence. thats most important, they cant just stand theyer and aim to shoot or make good passes. we were lucky koreans cant do that for shit, they need 20 chanses to make that pass and they may spot it one time, but an ok team would make our defence look like it was 2002 again
Ghoddos has little match time in England. Against weaker teams he could be ok but Korea could have exposed that today. I suppose Skocic saw this in training and didn't want to risk injury or fatigue. Fact is this result is acceptable and all the Koreans felt lucky to escape with a draw.

i guess with how the game went, both teams should be happy and it was a fair result.. that last chance for korea was a sitter if it was the tottenham star who got it.. great save by Beiranvand.. he really saved us from a defeat.
We hade good chances as well, 2 hit the post and lack of VAR saved korea from a penalty on Taremi aswell. since iraq drew with uae 1 pts is ok,
btw uae had a goal in for 3-2 on overtime atleast it looked like that on the VAR, but the ref blew the wistle and said game had ended, pointed as it was a goal but said whole ball wasnt in.. and confusion on the field.. no goal game over.. uae players were crying on the field.. insane stuff..
We're slatted to be ranked #21 next month with 6 games left in qualification and we have 1,545.02 points in the FIFA rankings. Top 16 ranked teams are all in the mix for WC qualifying at the moment still, which puts us into pot 3 (as there are three pots of 8). If we can get up to #15 (given that Qatar, as host, will be in pot #1), we're guaranteed to be in pot 2, which will be a huge boost to our prospects of advancing to R16. The current #15 are the Swiss, with a "live" point total of 1,630.91. That's a big point total difference. We'll need to both win out, and also for either some of the teams in front of us to either lose games during qualifying, or outright fail to make it, in order to reach Pot 2. Its not out of the question though! Colombia, Uruguay and USA all appear to be struggling and are in the top 20, and Europe is nearly completely up in the air (with 14 teams above us in the rankings, but only 13 qualification slots).

At 1-1 we had Korea by the balls but you could tell a few of our guys were tiring (they just played an intense game in UAE heat few days ago where again sko didnt really sub). Instead of introducing likes of ghoddos, ghayedi, Y. Well Iran controlled and dominated the game from the moment he made the first substitution until we equalised. Putting Amiri back in midfield allowed us to press them higher and they couldn't get out for around 15-20 minutes and JB's best spell in the game also coincided with the period after the substitution so I'm not sure we can criticise this too much.
But I agree on the criticism around a lack of more attacking substitutions after we had equalised, and giving more time to quality players like Ghoddos, Ghaedi and Torabi to influence the game. Personally I think the mistake he made was not starting with that line-up with Amiri in midfield and Noorafkan at lb and then having the option to switch Amiri to lb and bring on more attacking subs later on.

Well said. And also his game plan was indicative of that: Play backwards instead of forwards to gain some meaningless possession. This is exactly what other Croatian coaches have doe to our football in the past. If we play Brazil or Holland, he will ask all 11 players to bring their bed and to put them in the 18 yards.
I understand a coach to be only result oriented but when he has so much talents on the bench but doesn't use them then it is pure stupidity. We had the likes of Saman, Ghaedi, Karim, Torabi on the bench, any decent coach would've subbed in at least two of them around 75th minutes while we had the momentum after scoring our goal to push to win the match.
The issue is in WC. This team with Sko will not do anything in WC.

I have so much to get off my chest about this game. I will write a thorough analysis of this game later.
But you are correct about that he reshuffled the team and that it turned the game around and worked.
However, he did it out of incompetence not brilliance.
It was obvious from the start that Skocic was going after a tie game. He let the Koreans dictate the game which eventually led to the Son goal. After the equalizer the Koreans were in complete disarray, and instead of bringing fresh legs like Ghodus and Ghaedi to finish the job he did absolutely nothing and let the Koreans get back on their feet with some fresh legs of their own.
He got us results against average Asian teams but today got fully exposed against an Asian powerhouse. To think we could have had Renard but did not thanks to the corrupt and incompetent Taj and his gang.
We most likely will qualify to the WC but once there, there is virtually no chance we are advancing from group stage, something that we were on course of doing had they not gotten rid of CQ.
Just keep in mind that Japan, S Korea, Australia, KSA and even N Korea have all advanced from the group stage at the WC and we are just idling.

I think a draw at Azadi against Korea is not enough for a no 1 ranked Team in Asia. We just gave the Koreans all the possession and parked the Bus in our home game in the first half and the last 25 min of the second half .
Most people agree, that Ghoddus should just enter the game at some point, even if Skocic was happy with the 1-1 and wanted to rely on counter-attacks, Ghoddus would be perfect for the game. Still one can't deny that Skocic did a good job and put us in a great position so far. I just hope that he considers Ghoddus and Ghaedi for the future games.
I think we don't need to discuss our Middlefield, Ezzi was the Man of the Match and Nourollahi will keep his position until someone else can take his spot. Our main issue is going to be on LB-Position. It is true that Moharrami (RB) had a bad game, but overall he was very good for TM, lets not judge him by one bad game. Amiri at LB is a waste of his talent for our attack. Nourafkan need to gain more experience, he made some unnecessary fouls and got two yellow-cards in his last games. He is IMO to slow as a LB, if MiMo can find his Form back, that he had under CQ, he should be our starter.
Looking at Group B i was thinking, why so many claim that AFC is constantly putting stones in our way and favor KSA in every Aspect. Honestly, we end up in one of the Easiest Groups in our past WCQ-Campaigns. Since WCQ 2014 our only main opponent is South Korea, all the other Teams we are expected to defeat (on paper).
Just imagine we would swap with Australia and would end up with KSA, Japan, Oman....

Problem is not correcting your tactics/strategy. Problem arises when coaches DONT address the issue.

2- No. We Dont know JB is useless on the left. Simply bcoz he is not useless.
However being a mainly right footed player his efficacy rises if used on the right flank.
he has been used on the left before and has done quite well. I have been tracking him from when he was called up for our U17 TM. And he impressed everyone at that age, as a LEFT winger.
3- Neither is nourafkan a defensive liability. In fact against Iraq he did quite wonderfully.
4- True. Amiri's best turn out is when used in LM or LW
to sum the above, I think Skocic thought he could use two attacking players (amiri & JB) on the left flank as Korea's right flank will be far less aggressive as their left where Son plays.
so he used a proper RB (Moharami , who normally does well. But today was off form).

If it wasn't the 2 post hits we would have won. So relax everybody and let Skocic do his job.
As for Ghoddos, i am pretty sure he will get his playing time.
The criticism of Sko is a bit much. Yeah the line-up was a bit cautious, but wasn't it always VERY cautious under CQ? Yes, the subs came on late, but didn't Taremi, Eza, Azmoun and JB nearly put 3 more goals in that second half, missing 2 by inches and a 3rd a foot offsides? When our players don't get playing time in Europe we assume it's bc they aren't up to par, but when they don't get playing time with TM, we assume it's a coach's error...bit weird, no?
We tied our top opponent 1-1 at home. Not a perfect game, but a decent result, and we're 5 points above the playoff spot with 6 winnable games to go.
I think it's important we get some squad rotation in and continue to learn our squad and build chemistry. There is nothing terminally wrong with this team or its coaching staff.
Let him qualify us to the WC first, then we can discuss firing him. We don't want unnecessary drama while we're not qualified yet.
If we're qualified after the matches in february, we can seriously discuss this. A new coach will then have 9 months to prepare for the WC.
So far he's getting results but i agree with the members saying we won't get results in WC with this coach.
However i hope the same members are prepared for a vatani coach to take over if Skocic is fired. I can't see a top coach( like CQ) coming to Iran.
Japan replaced Halilhodzic with a vatani coach before WC18 and it worked wonders for them. Can it work out the same way for Iran?

Maybe bring back Jalal Talebi from retirement - he is 79 according to wiki, he has experiance as a wc coach and did ok in 98.
