View Full Version : If Ali Karimi had played today

I dont know how many people are gonna agree with me but in my opinion if Ali Karimi had started(probably instead of Khatibi) today and Im sayin this based on his good abilities in the air and N. Korea's shown weakness through the air; I think Karimi would have scored at least one or two more and added that to the score. Although knowing Ali Daei he might not have even used Karimi as a starter.
IMO he would have been the perfect addition to this squad and had a significant tactical impact on the way they were playing.

Instead of Karimi meaning he played as striker? Lmao Karimi might even be worse than Khatibi as a striker. Don't believe me? Go watch Iran-UAE 2002.

If nothing at least he could have brought more than 50k spectators to the stadium.

judging by what he did in the last 2 PP games, I'd say he'd have destroyed the koreans and perhaps score a couple all by himself.

he heads well.... unlike rezaei and khatibi
he is a fighter , physically, in the middle of defenders ... unlike rezaei and khatibi
he handles the ball far better than anyone in the team

Headers I agree with you.
Fights, hell no. Rezaei is much better than him. (Goals vs. Syria and Kuwait)
Actually, Khatibi and Rezaei's handling was good this game. It was their finishing that was lacking.

by "physical" I mean better upper body strength to fight off defenders in duels and jumps.
neither khatibi nor rezaei have that.

they are too short and small to be able to win duels.

you guys are talking about fighting spirit.
perhaps I shd have made it more clear

Last time we saw Karimi play though (AFC and couple games after) he was playing really passive and was almost scared to fight for the ball. Despite being short, Rezaei has proven that he has the strength and speed needed to fight off defenders.

Even if Chris Ronaldo had been in, instead of karimi or who ever, nothing would have changed.

This team has no strategy to counter a losing, or for that matter, a winning situation (Against kuwait). We must thank the 3 or 4 key players whom have always done us proud for getting the vital 3 points !!!

today sometimes the iranian player stoped and played back the ball and the korean could switch to defence and we played around the ball at the back and didnt create any dangerous thing like the koreans did yew we had the ball most but we could create more with karimi he would atleast have one player marking him so the other players in TM would get more space and move forward and karimis dribbles would create space for other players and get the attention from other N.korean players. karimi is good to hold on to the ball so when we kick the ball to hell like our defenders do sometimes we have someone that could hold the ball until the team has come up on the field and karimi is 1000000000 times better than khatibi but who isnt?

Yup, I just saw this in Khabar Varzeshi.
Also it was on news that he was really eager to go to Azadi and watch the macth and cheers TM up but some of his friends suggested him not to do it cos it just gonna make more hashie in stadium.

karimi would not have made a significant difference to this game.
how many times before we waited for the Shazdeh to do a miracle?

karimi first needs to do well in his club, then work on his temper even
b4 being useful for TM. A player that adds hashieh, kills the team spirit.

I agree that a rehabilitated karimi may be useful for TM, though.

Karimi for Khatibi is utopy, Karimi is not a nokeh hamleh player. He would have started instead of Jabbari and I think Jabbari, who had an assist, had a good game overall.

Karimi also played in 2005 when we won 1-0 and 2-0.

DD I usually agree with your comments and analysis but I don't see how Rezaei lacks physical strength. Other than his short height, his muscle mass and speed coupled with relentless energy make him an ideal fighter on the field.

I think it would've all depended on his motivation.....Right now, his potential contribution would be as a "kazeb" forward...as we have a pretty good midfield and Khatibi is not TM level. Rezei is not really a centre froward and Hashemian is injured left and right....so Karimi would be great as a forward IMO

Also, I don't really agree that G.Rezaei is not physically strong or worse than Karimi...he is big time fighter and a very good addition to TM... it's good to see him in TM

whats the use ofthis?
"if X or Y had played That doesn't say anything, we cannot showcase it, so its waste of time discussing it. More surprising to see people knowing it for sure; "if he(Karimi) had played he def. had scored a couple of goals"
