View Full Version : Daei: Iran ready to defeat Kuwait
03/24/08
Press TV -- Iran's head coach Ali Daei is upbeat about performance of the national team, promising that Asia's heavyweight will beat Kuwait.
Before the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, Daei, the former national team captain, said that three-time World Cup qualifier Iran is completely ready to face-off against Kuwait.
"We did not use our potential against Syria, now I hope Iran's national team will play against Kuwait with the fewest number of mistakes to gain three points from the game," the former Asian Player of the Year told reporters Sunday evening after Iran's squad arrived in Kuwait.
Daei, Iran's all-time leading scorer with 109 goals, voiced hope his team's goalless streak will be snapped in the upcoming game as Iran has not scored in six matches.
"Iran is the stronger team; they have a lot of European-based players, but it will be difficult for them," Kuwait's Croatian coach Radion Gacanin told Reuters.
"In football, anyone can beat anyone. We are at home, we have to win and they have not played well lately, it's been bad for them," he added.
The three-time Asian champions had a goalless draw against Syria in Tehran in the opening match of Group Five of the Asian World Cup qualifying tournaments.

If daei say we will win this match agianst kuwait
then we will win!!!
European-based players???? , its only one, and he's a class 'A' bench warmer. oh, sorry, he doesnt even make the bench these days too.
Our football needs a big shack-up and a reality check or we will slip-up and miss the worldcup.

Two reasons, first he's coaching the Kuwait NT. When your coaching them, you know you suck at life.
And second, your coaching the Kuwait NT. Why would you be confident in that?

if we play half as good as we did against bahrain, and provided that we dont get really unlucky, it should be an easy 3 points.

i don't think you can consider iran as "Asia's heavyweight" any longer

I think we can be considered heavy weights of Asia and the world if players like Hashemian, Kia, Zandi, Hashemian and Nokounam play. It is funny, I was looking at the picture under your signature. None of those players are playing anymore :( It is sad that we have these great potential and the do not play for us. We are playing with our Team B with other teams. You know what I think is going to happen? They won't play for us until th 2nd round and when we qualify hey come in. But what they don't understand is that we may fail to qualify.
Yes with this B team, we are not heavyweights really. We are "A" team in Asia but not that good globally. But if our European based players all come and help then we are the best.

Iran drew their opening match 0-0 at home to Syria while Kuwait lost 2-0 in UAE.
“We came here looking for a win to bolster our chances of winning our group and progressing to the next round; Kuwait will be all out to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat to the United Arab Emirates and we need to approach the match in a professional manner," Daei told reporters.
Iran kick-started their Group 5 campaign with a dismal 0-0 home draw against Syria in Tehran.
“We have only ourselves to blame for missing out on a home victory against the Syrians; we squandered too many chances throughout the 90 minutes.
“Back home, local fans are looking forward to have a positive result against Kuwait."
"We lost 1-0 in Bahrain last Friday but I am personally satisfied with the overall performance of the side in Manama despite the defeat."
"However, I believe that we will redeem ourselves on Wednesday and a goal-hungry approach is just what I am expecting to see from the lads in a game that matters so much to all of us,” he concluded.

Kuwait manager Radion Gacanin ‘Radan’ believes that Wednesday's World Cup Group 5 qualifier against Iran in Kuwait City is too close to call.
Kuwait suffered a 2-0 opening game defeat away to the United Arab Emirates in February while their visitors were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Syria.
“Both sides badly need a victory and that’s why I believe we have equal chances on Wednesday,” Gacanin told daily Al-Watan on Tuesday.
“We have been struggling to find the last touch in the penalty box recently; but we have worked very hard on this aspect and I firmly believe we will score against Iran,” he added.
“On the positive side, we have no injuries, the players are at the peak of their form, and home support will be an added bonus.
“With just a little bit of luck, I believe we can make it against Iran,” he concluded.
Kuwait and Iraq shared the spoils at 0-0 last week in a friendly warm-up match held on home soil, while Iran suffered a 1-0 loss away to Bahrain.

yes Iranians do deserve to see a win, even a lucky one but the folks who have run this nonsense show of managing the team don't ..
I hate to see an immediate reward for them..:nono:

we got lucky and got a point, our 2nd goal was too lucky too.
This result should keep us honest about the major effort needed to make something happen. Other teams are as hungry and love to deny us.
I saw 2nd half and other than a few passes and possible opportunities, I sense the team lacks focus... or players simply not used to play each other.
Daei has made a few mistakes too, I guess he's entitled to a few initially..
