After watching a magnificent performance by Japan in defeating the African champions Egypt 4-1 in Osaka in the fist leg of the AFC/OFC Challenge cup , one must ponders the status of Team Melli and its readiness to challenge the continental supremacy of the Japaneses.
Japan played splendid football against the Egyptians. Under the master coaching of the Croat Osim who has built a solid team , that Japanese seemed to have mastered teamwork , great one touch football ,and very good individual skills. Add that to the normal Japanese discipline , work ethics and exceptional organizations , then you have yourself a World Class team.
Japan was a fantastic ambassador for Asia and fully deserves its ranking as the top Asian team , and this 4-1 drubbing of Egypt was just a simple reminder of the prowess of Japan.
Where does this put our own Team Melli ?
At the moment , no one can even confirm if Ghalenoei is the coach or not. The political turmoil associated with free election of the Football Federation ( you can take that with a pinch of salt ) means that there is uncertainty on who is at the helm of Team Melli and thus no short or medium term plan to address the overall program of Team Melli. Two FIFA friendlies passed without any matches for Team Melli , and there is no published commitment until the end of he years.
The current administrators have declared there will be no decisions on the coaching appointment of Team Melli until the new IFF administration is elected and takes over from the present temporary admin team. That in itself is wasting some very precious time ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2010 qualification rounds.
Assuming the political turmoil is over after the election, it is essential that stability returns to Team Melli by appointing the coaching team and immediate organization of the program for short to medium term. Organizing a few friendlies is highly important both fo the team spirit and competition.
