The AFC Asian Cup 2007 is the biggest single-sport tournament in Asia. Next year this festival of football takes place from 7th to 29th July 2007, and for the first time is co-hosted by four nations – Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. It is also the first-time in twenty-three years that this competition is being hosted in the Southeast Asian region.
The draw will slot the 16 finalists into four groups of four teams each besides deciding in which countries these groups will be hosted.

 I second that!
Thanks Arya..
I hope we get in a good group NOT with Bahrain..
^^With the exception of Thailand maybe, the only way the rest of these four teams can reach the finals is by hosting of course.

Why did Lebanon pull out? The war was over in a month.
If I understand correctly, the AFC has it's own seeding system, which is based upon the teams' performances within the previous 2 or 3 Asian Cup competitions.
2004 results
1. Japan Champions
2. China Runner up
3. Iran 3rd place
4. Bahrain
The other quarter finalists were
Korea Republic
Uzbekistan
Jordan
Iraq
2000 Asian Cup
1. Japan Champions
2. Saudi Arabia Runner up
3. Korea Republic 3rd place
4. China
And the rest of the quarter finalists were
Iran
Iraq
Qatar
Kuwait
1996 Asian Cup
1. Saudi Arabia Champions
2. UAE Runner Up
3. Iran 3rd place
4. Kuwait
And the rest of the quarter finalists were
South Korea
Japan
Iraq
China
Based on the above data I’d have to say that the seeding should look something like this;
First bowl
Japan
Iran
Saudi Arabia
China
Second Bowl
South Korea
Iraq
Bahrain
UAE
Third Bowl will probably be the host nations, not that it will make any difference which bowl they'll be in.
Thailand
Indonesia
Malaysia
Vietnam
And the fourth bowl should be the remaining teams
Australia
Oman
Uzbekistan
Qatar
Should be pretty close to this anyway!!

Why did Lebanon pull out? The war was over in a month.
When the competition began the war was going on and most of their players fled the country and they could not practice.

Does the fact that Iran won their group in Qualifying have anything to do with the seedings ?
If not .....
Why the hell did GN insist on winning this game, no matter what, and brought the guys from Europe to play S.Koreas B team.

Thanks for the info - I think it is actually a fun idea to have the competition hosted by 4 different neighboring countries.

it's fun but also a pain in the ass. i'm planning on going and i want to watch 3 teams including TM. now because of the fact it's in four different countries i most probably won't be able to watch all the games of those 3 teams. imagine watching one game, then going straight to the airport to catch a 1 hour flight to where the next game will be. pretty much impossible as i might miss part of the next game. and also heaps tiring. it's going to be hot as hell in those countries in july and plane hopping and dragging luggage around is the last thing you'll wanna do. but i'm waiting for the draw to see how it all turns out and how many tickets i'll buy.
does anyone know when the draw is and when the tickets will go on sale?
BTW THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH for this thread!!!

no surprise teams here except the hosts course...
i think its kinda bs to give away 4 slots to a bunch of sorry asss so called hosts...that will go a long way towards lessening the quality of the tournament...whoever heard of 4 countries hosting a simple tournament..?!!!
even two is too much as fifa found out in 2002, now not just two, but 4 different countries..... this will probably go down as the least attended asian cup ever....
makes you wonder if IFF was somehow involved in their planning..;)

Yah, fun for you and me who will be watching the matches from the comfort of our living rooms. But the players are gonna have a heck of a time with the event schedule I'm sure. Play a game then fly to another country, play another game, and again fly, play... well you get the idea. They're going to be completely drained when it's all said and done.

This is so funny, because even the TM coaching staff probably did not know that head to head was the determining factor.
They all said we have to beat korea to win the group(all the newspapers as well).Since we had the lower goal differential.
We could have won the group with a 0-0 draw as well then, since we tied the first game but scored 1 goal in korea. Am I right ?
Even the IRIB announcer said in the first half that if the game ends this way(0-0) then korea would be group winner due to goal difference. So noone knew what the hell they are talking about....

Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam
IRAN, Japan, SK and Australia
Bahrain, China, Saudi, UAE
Iraq, Uzbek, Oman, Qatar
knowing our luck, we'll probably lose out on being a first seed to the Saudis
