NUREMBERG, June 12 (Reuters) - Iran striker Ali Daei could miss his team's next match against Portugal on Saturday due to a back injury, his coach Branko Ivankovic said on Monday.

'Ali Daei did not train today because of a back injury. I think it is very hard for him to play against Portugal,' Ivankovic told reporters.

Iran lost their Group D opener against Mexico 3-1 on Sunday.

They also play Angola on June 21.

Rezaei and Mirzapour are responsible for the second goal.

Lets kick them also out right?

Both had a great match before the 2nd goal was scored, but if you want to keep out the players that cost us the match then we need to keep out: Rezaei, Daei and Mirzapour

im not asking for rezaei and mirzapour to follow daei, but we need to organise & change the defense line-up

& mirzapour has to either improve or if he doesnt know how to shoot and learn from his 5 year constant mistakes then now is the best time to leave as were in a very desperate and critical situation

If it wasn't for Rezaei we would have had a great chance to qualify to the 2002 World Cup.

The goal we conceded agains Croatia was because of Rezaei and Mirzapour just like today.

What I want to say is that even the best players make mistakes. Mirzapour was playing great before the second so was Rezaei but both of them cost us the game.

Yoau are right everybody makes a mistake, also bad mistakes but what I mean is:

if you are down by two goals you ca easier fightback with 11 players (excl. Daei) on the field not with 10!!! (incl. Daei)

I don't say we would have cought up the two goals difference but it would have made an impact if we would have 11 players...

mistakes are something that all players including top world class players make. What kind of mistake and how often they make the same mistake determines whether they should be excluded from the team. Rezaei makes little mistake in fact he did not make any mistake at all. It was Mirza'a inability to do the most elementary things with the ball.

Mirza should be excluded because he has made the same bloody mistakes in nealy every other games of his career.

Again I wasn't talking about Daei but the other two of the other 10 'real' players.

Before the World Cup I even admitted that Daei shouldn't be a starter but someone who is good enough for about 30 minutes, but with the way he is playing currently even 1 minute is too much.

Daei go to Holland and take some coaching lessons there as they have good ones here and then go back to Iran to prove yourself as a coach. He was once a great player and its sad he is going to remembered as a bad player by a lot people now.

To be honoust I am very mad at myself to posting these things about a legendary player like Daei and its very sad, but if Pele would be in the Brazil line-up right now in a very important match for them (final) and if he wouldn't do anything and play for about 90 minutes you can be sure that they would be very mad because of him.

Don't expect a sudden turnaround and Iran beat Portugal and advance (although that could easily happen) and beat every team and win the world cup. That won't happen. Without Daei we have a new team player who has not played much with rest of the team so anything could happen. He either clicks in or could just be as ineffective although never as much as daei.

what happened in the game yesterday was written all over the wall. But Branko and Daei like a little stuborn kids just refused to accept it and wanted to see it for real. and now they have seen it.

Imagine this scenario:

Daei: I want to play I want to play
Branko: Baba joon sure you will play as long as you want
Daei: I want to go to the world cup
B: Sure my darling you can play there too

At the world cup and after the Iran v Mexico game

Daei: I just logged on the Internet and it seems everyone is asking for our heads
Brabnko: Oh shit is that right?
D: Yeah don't believe me just come and have a look
B: Oh shit we should do something otherwise they will kill us both
D: I pretend to be injured
B: Good idea
D: but promise to field a useless team that will definitly lose by a lot of goals to both Portugal and Angola so people can see how effective I always was in the team

For Ninety minutes is DAEI TAKIING THE PISS OUT OF US, IS HE TRYING TO HURT and INSULT US. OR IS IT BRANKO? IS HE THE ONE WHO WANTS US TO BE THE JOKE OF THE WORLD CUP ??

this man is corrupt and selfish: he has proved it beyond any doubt. Now you want him to be a coach?!!
No wonder we have People like Ahmadinejad and rafsanjani as our leaders!!

I believe that daei always wants to be the best and show himself, that's why
is still playing at an age of 37 and taking the place of a youngster. He believes
that he is the best and is eager to show it to the world.

That's also a thing that would make him a great coach. Always wanting to be
THE BEST.

any defence in the world can make this mistakes coz of the load and the pressure on the team. with no one moving infront they were easliy coming to our field coz of no one disturbing there defence line while passing in there field we neeeed fast players WE ARE PLAYING WORLD CLASS TEAMS NOT LAOS. I CANT BELIVE WHAT BRANKO DID

LOL, listen to your self. Daei has pernantly ruined his reputation, I dont believe he can ever recover from this. Daei should have retired at 34 after the 2002 qualifiers. He would have retired a legend. Know he will retire an emberrasment. He is not an honourable man.

Plus shouldnt it be the coach who decides who is the best forward in the team. Not the player. So ali deai is really the coach of iran and branko is just a puppet for the cameras.

Alright... lets take it for granted and believe the news that he is really injured. He must have got injured during the game. If that is the case then he carried on playing whilst injured and did not tell the head coach that he was injured. That is more evidence of his selfish behaviour.

How convenient that Daei should get a 'back injury' just after anyone critised him like that. It's pretty obvious what's going on, the same happened in the Japan match. But still its good that he can at least fake an injury in order to save his face rather than just keep playing.

And good, that's one scapegoat less. Assuming Mirza makes no blunders against Portugal, that leaves only Branko to blame for an eventual loss...

Ok so our chances of qualifying are now revived again, but I wonder if Branko will still go 4-2-3-1 with Zandi returning and Teymourian keeping his starting position, but I prefer Borhani starting since we have to be offensive! By the way guys take it easy please, the guy made the right move and is most likely faking an injury but to celebrate as much as some of you have is...well very disrespectful, just celebrate inside like me. :D

Now I really know there is something with Daei in the team. Before, I was always sceptical and would give Daei the benefit of the doubt. But enough is enough. The guy sucks big time!!!! He didn’t even seem injured yesterday, and today they announce he is injured and won’t play Saturday. Whereas for Karimi, Branko said he was injured again, yet he says he will be playing Saturday!!!
Daei is really the boss in the team and trying to avoid a loser’s exit, he is faking an injury. How low of him!
Daei can’t control a pass, and can’t run or shoot properly.
I am glad he is gone. But I know if Iran beats Portugal, he will be back against Angola to have a share of the glory.

Nice try toos.
Nice Try Daie. He is faking it.

I don't believe the news. And it is irrelevant anyways. We were not gonna beat Portugal with 10 Daies and 20 Branko. But we could have beaten Mexico without Daie and a couple of SMARTER moves by Branco. But TOO LATE.

I hope Daie gets to play another 180 minutes so you Daie supporters who put down Hashemain at 29 over the old turtle get to watch your king look like a towel boy on the field like he did against Mexico.

who knows, maybe a miracle ball hits his foot and bounces in the back of the net and you all can be happy and Daie can be happy. Because that's the ONLY thing that Daie was ever after. to score just ONE freaking goal at the WC.

Iraj jan, I promise you there is more to it. Daie was far more injured against China and he played. And he misses Portugal because of Back pain? OK. TIME will tell what happend there after the Mexico game. There is a big problem among the team members with regards to Daie.

I agree with most of the posters, although Im not too happy, this is a temporary fix.

A few issues...
1- If he was injured why wasnt he subbed out?

2- There was nothing to cause an injury, he wasnt fouled in any way to cause an injury

3- Why cant we admit that he sucks and thats why he shouldnt play instead of an excuse (injury)

Bronko needs to leave too.
