As much as I don't like to focus on one player, to say bad or to say good. However, there has been so much said about Daei, that I just couldn't hold back, and then came this article:
The men who lead from the front
Here are some more details to consider: Watch the game against Bosnia. If you don't want to watch the whole game, watch the goals. Daei has a role in all 3 goals (while he was on the field). One which Bakhtiarizadeh header pass to (I think Hashemian), two defenders are defending Daei, giving Bakhtiarizadeh the chance to get to the ball first.
We, Iranians think that the person who has the ball, and dribbles best, is the best player. Or the guy who runs fastest with the ball (i.e, Pure Speed vs. Technical Speed vs. Tactical Speed vs. Mental Speed). Pure speed/technical speed is a good talent to have, but it is not in and of itself the talent that makes a soccer player the most effective or most efficient on the field. Daei is an European player with many of the skills that makes him very efficient and effective on the field. He understands playing without the ball. At times he is all the way below half line to help defense, or ...
Here is an idea: Watch one game with your eyes only on Daei instead of the ball. Look how defenders are defending him. One move, and he is either dangerously on the goal, or a pass to ... (e.g., Rezaei scored a goal one a beautiful pass from Daei against Bosnia). As the article (that Fazi sent) indicates, there are also the intangibles (he is a leader off the field, as he is on the field - and his presence is an assurance and confidence for a lot of the TM players).
Branko will use Daei. With Hashemian next to him, Branko has even more fire power, because if the defenders focus on Daei, Hashemian can hurt them. So, he'll use Daei as a decoy. Daei is so big, that he is willing to play that role. Anything to help the team. He is not only the team leader, but he is also a team player. That is what sets Daei apart. That is what makes Daei a role model.

With all due respect Mehran jan, you claim like the other players on the bench are bunch of "zamin khaki" players who has no abilities to add on to the team. For sure Daei is a football player, but the question is "who is more suitable?" If we bench Daei, we won't play with 10 men, we add another one with some abilities. Your view on Daei, with all due respect" is very biased who tries to give credit to any move of him. Such an argument is valid for every single player who are covered with an opponent. This is an old one to say the least “when he score, he scores, when he doesn’t, he was opening up for the others.”
One more thing to think about, according to your claim, Daei is still good enough to play in the highest stage of football, then I claim such an ability won't be gone for another 2-3 years for a smaller stage like Asian Cup, so we should expect to see him for another 3 years to say minimum.
We won our most crucial games without Daei last year and no one felt his absence (if you ask me, it was pretty better for the team). So, his presence is not that crucial any more like Karimi, Kia, Nekonam, Rezaei, Hashemian, .... mmmm, and the rest of the team (with the exception of Mirzapour of course) ;) .
I truly hope I am wrong and see Daei with golden shoe from WC, how much hope I have, it’s very little.
Cheers,
faraz

I hate to say it, especially so close to the WC, but in my opinion, Hajagha is right on the money.

Well, I have to agree with Mehran Khan, but Daee should only play for the first half. If Branco agrees to pull him out for the second half whether we are behind or not, I believe someone like Enayati or Borhani can really do a better job towards the end of the game.
Wishing our team the best

See, I believe that Daei is an amazing player and one of the best, but everyone has a special limit of time..seeing Daei play with Saipa makes me very happy and excited, not only because I believe that his team plays beautiful football, no, but because everything is under control and planned. Daei is an amazing coach and I think that at this very moment he should replace Ghalenoie. Some might argue that he is not going to invite youngsters such as Mobali and Borhani but I believe that Daei won't do that:
1) Because he knows what he is doing and isn't that stupid to not invite players that fought with him..
2) Because he loves Iran and would do everything for TM and the fans
3) He wants his team to win!
I believe that we should atleast try him, before AC 07 and give him a few opportunities..he knows the Iranian Press, and will not be affected by them the way Branco was. He has been in Iranian Football for a long time and I believe that he can bring the Asian crown back to us.
When it comes to experience and exposure at international , there is very little doubt that Ali Daei has the most of it playing in Germany with the likes of Armenia B , Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin.
He has picked up tremendous amount of tactical plans and experince from the European coaches which is no doubt is quite valuable for his task as a coach. His leadership and style in a team that has very few stars and less experience than many other leading clubs is a proof.
I do hope that Ali Daei suceeds with Saipa and eventually gets the job of Training Team Melli at some stage. I hope he does it on merits rather than influence.

I know this probably isnt the deep, meaningful type of post you were expecting on this thread, and I appologize to the creator of the thread for doing the following, but it has to be done:
WE LOVE DAEI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3
With the advent of professional football, Chivalry, sportsmanship and prudence have all but disappeared from football arena nowadays. There is however a rare breed of footballers and coaches in the world than have maintained proper conduct and gentlemanly manners by their dignified acts and deeds. Footballers are mostly self-centric, opportunist and quite often hypocrites…..in my opinion it is the money is the fundamental reason behind the decline of ethics in football, but not entirely. Many other contributory factors such as social upbringing, culture and education plays a role as well.
The Iranian players have not been immune from this tendency either. They have very little old fashioned loyalty and such loyalty swings towards where the most cash is available. The media creates lots of hype around them and attracted by this attention some of the players utter so much crap, they call it a statement, it boarders sick comedy!!!
Their ethics are suspect and questionable even when training with their clubs, lack of professionalism is evident . If they can cheat and get away with it, then it is a safe bet that they will. Most are lazy and inconsistent but nevertheless want fame and fortune like the other rich footballer.
In the midst of this phenomenon, Ali Daei remains in the rare breed of footballers. Hard working , ethical , sincere and loyal. While he is far from being perfect and beyond criticism, he remains a god example for the youth to follow. Not only he achieved an exceptional merit and record in the field, he is also a highly educated university graduate and chosen by UNICEF as an ambassador.
