We scored 15 goals in four matches in 2006, which is amazing.

Now even more amazing is that all 15 goals came out of play, no single out of a setplay situation.

I remember some were worried after the qualification that we could only score after setplays and that it wouldn't work against non-Asian teams.

I guess that worries should be gone now.

And about setplays, it's usually the last thing to be trained, so we might still improve there for WC.

Yes I agree - I do feel better - especialy since our offense have not been limited to sending long crosses for Daei.

interesting.

Maybe because we were missing Mahdavikia in some of the matches.

it also means without kia, we suck at set plays.

zandi is more hype than anything else.
ppl base their preference of zandi on one or two occasions only: azerbaijan direct kick and another assist in WCQ's.
that's it !

we shd face it:
our team has no plans for set pieces, direct or indirect.
no variation.
no combinations
no specialists for direct kicks.

no wonder .... !

exactly, only three players are specialist direct or indirect, one is mehdi who i believe has perfect indirects but less direct and the other two are on brancos ignore list and will never get a chance to play, one is kazemian who is great in both and other is iman who also is great in both..

its really funny to see, when mehdi is injured or just not playin he doesnt go for the logical replacement kazemian, no he changes the whole system..

Why is every one so negative all the time. I am sure if Zandi was not good at taking free kicks Ali Daei would take them every time (especially since he has scored 4 in the last two/Three months) so Zandi must be good for Daei to step aside and let him take it. Plus Kazemian didn’t score a single free kick from what I remember the whole IPL season.

Interesting indeed. In the last 3 prep games, we have scored 10 goals
by 8 different players none on set piece.

In fact if you go all the way back to Asian cup, a clear message to our
opponents will be that No player (and god bless them all and keep them
healthy) has been irreplacable as far as offence or defence.

I am not sure if you are talking about my post or Martin Reza's. But in
my post I stated we scored 10 in the 3 friendlies and 6 goals got scored on
us. That is a +4 margin.

Here's the summary of our games in 2006:

Against Chinese Taipe for Asian Cup Qual 4-0
and then 3 friendlies against Costa Rica 3-2, Croatia 2-2 Bosnia 5-2.

If we only take our results against WC qualifiers, we still have a +1 goal differential :-) in 2006.
