2004 the best Iranian national team.

Guys ive been watching our games in 2004 vs S.Korea, Roma, Bahrain and I actually think our team in 2004 is better than our 2006 team what do you guys think?. If you watched the game vs Costa Rica you would see our performance still seemed a bit poor despite scoring 3 goals . I think Karimi was a better player in 2004 than he is now. I don't mean to be negative right before the world cup but i thought you guys should know this.

you cannot compare test matches versus a whole competition!

We would know more after the official games of the world cup...
and even then, it would be difficult to judge, if one plays versus Asian Teams or in a World Cup...

my oppinion differs - I find this team a very strong one

but again if one asks me, which team was Iran's strongest of all times I say immediately: 1977!

plus if i recall correctly, Iran only had one days worth of training for that game, with our European based players. Plus we were missing Mahdavikia and Rezaie. I felt we played really well considering the lack of training and 2 of our best players. I think we are better.

The best Iranian national team was the one in 1998 where it gave some "real" teams some serious run for their money. It wasnt just the fact that they had respectable results. Its the way they palyed them. in 1998 Iran had 270 minutes of true competition and at no point any of their opponents felt comfortable. I remmeber after the WC was over one european headline said: Iran was the only asian team that showed up to actually play:D

2004 team was not even a top 3 team in our history you ask me. That 4-3 was a fluke. The main problem of that team? Thye couldnt score. They couldnt score against japan and they couldnt score against china. Thanks god fo hash deciding to show up otherwise we would be wondering how Jordan or bahrain were going to fair in the WC!!

our best teams sine mid 1980's that I have followed TM:

1) 1997-98 (WC team)

2) 1996 ( beat KSA 3-0 and S.Korea 6-2)

3) 1990 ( asian game champions, conceded only one goal in the tourny, the diff b/w this team and 2004 was that they played suffocating defense and even the bench players were "expert" penalty kickers)

4) 2006 (besides the 2-1 japan game not much to say expect the team is too talented to ignore, hope they can find a way to paly as a team)

5) 2004 (what I remmeber the most is our defenders slapping each other and TM not being able to score penalties and most importantly we didnt have a finisher)

disclaimer: I know for a fact that our TM sucked in the first half of the 80's but I havent see the 70's to make and assesment on those TM teams.

in a tournament, players are training, sleeping,eating, playing all together. team chemistry is high as a result and the players are more in tuned with the team as a whole.

I think how we played in the first half of the costa rica game was excellent. Everybody played good except zare and teymourian, and those were the replacements for the missing players. This team is better.
