View Full Version : Could Australia ruin Iran's chances of Qualifying for WC 2010?

As we know Iran is one of the asian powers. Along with Japan, S.korea and ksa but what happens when Australia comes along?. Now we all know iran beat Australia in 98 bla bla bla, But ive said this from my very first post Australia is an upcoming team as is NOT to be under estimated. Look at their results in cofed cup in 2001 they beat england and brazil?!!?. In 2005 they held Germany to a 2-2 draw before germany pushed back And recently their C team managed to beat bahrains A team 3-1 . If we play a game against bahrain with our A team our very very best results would be 2-0 or 2-1. I think theres a chance that if a group in 2010 comes up with Iran, s.korea, australia and lets say bahrain s.korea and australia could come 1st and 2nd in the group leaving iran to the play offs. All im saying is it's definetly gonna be hard qualifying for iran in 2010.

That's true, but harder qualifications, especially against a team which doesn't rely on pure timewasting and dirty play, generally will do our football good. The higher the competition in Asia, the better for Iran.

i respect your opinion but harder competition may be very bad for iran. It could ruin the balance in asia.

What do you mean by balance?
I personally am not satisfied when Iran remains an Asian top team, but is far away from being an international top team for the rest of my life. And the only way to close the gap to the European and South American teams is to generally rise the Asian level. Iran of course must be careful not to fall behind, but if we stay an Asian top team in an improved AFC then it can only be good for our football.

as in one of the powers will get eliminated or sent to the play offs instead of qualifying like they usually do. Because now there is a 5th very strong team.

It's maybe bad for us (but also for Japan, Southkorea, China, KSA, ...), but overall i think it's good for Asian football...

Australia is good and they wil be a major force to reckon with soon and yes we will have a little trouble against them but hey,, its nice at the same time to have a good matches against the closest Asian team to Europe both style and physical appearance.

Since when South Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia are so much better than Iran that it would ruin only our chances to qualify to the WC in South Africa because of Australia joining AFC.
All teams will have to work hard to qualify.

iran is the 1st in asia, so we dont have to worry.
also, fifa said that for wc2010, there will be 5/6 asian teams in wc, (in 2006, it was 4/5 without australia)
can you really imagine iran not being in the 6 better asian teams ???

i think after WC2006 its a whole new era for iranian football, Daei will probably say goodbye(eeshalla), and the coach (the new coach-i heard branko quitting after WC2006) will bring some new blood into the team,so who knows we might even have a better team than now and we will get stronger.

Dont ever take that to be a fact brother. When Portugal won the Youth Cup many many years ago they predicted that team to go onto bigger and better things. Eg World Cup and Euro Championships.
They have produced nothing.
Now as for Australia, I think it is only a good thing having another good team in Asian and like i said a while ago, the only team that should be scared of losing there status is KSA. They r no where near Iran, Jap or S. Korea.

I don't think Australia is better than Iran. I do think FIFA will do all they can to get them into the world cup however because they are an english speaking nation. There are also many other factors which would effect the outcome of both teams world cup qualification, and it is too soon to pass judgement. That said I don't think Iran will get as easy a qualification as they had this year in the future.

OOOOO MY GOD. Fifa will give Australia a better chance becasue they r English Speaking. WOOOOW, i cant believe you said that.
Firstly : President of Fifa is French( I think)
Secondly: Fifa has nothing to do with purely English speaking
Thirdly: Fifa has always supported Iran when everyone else was against them.

Believe it or not, makes no difference for me. History has proven that when FIFA wants a country in the world cup they will make it to the world cup i.e. China and the easy group they got in qualifying for 2002.
And FIFA has never supported Iran or we wouldn't be abused every time we play an Arab team or even Asians (AC 2004 semi-final against China.)
2006 didnt even start yet!!
A lot of things happen in 4 years, once Daei is gone the team will change to the better.
Just wait and see.

But both France and Brazil were b teams and Japan and South Korea beat Australia in the tournament.
We beat England more recently however. 3-1 in a friendly in England in 2004 ;)
England played a full strength squad in the first half and we were up 2-0 at halftime. Kewell planted Ferdiannd on his arse for our second goal. The likes of Beckham, Owen etc came off at halftime because their clubs were complaining. The young blokes did (Rooney, Jeffers etc) did better than the older blokes did!)
We lost 3-4 to Germany and 2-4 to Argentina in the most recent confed cup :( But we were under Farina then.
As for damaging Iran's chances, I believe all we can do is increase competition in Asia. No one I know believes we'll walk it by any stretch. It'll be tough, but surely whoever misses out would probably not have done much more than lose 3 games at the WC anyway.
Iran could well expose the lack of pace in our defence. Despite our attacking strengths our quickest defender at the moment is probably the 35 yr old Tony Vidmar!
As long as they do the groupings fairly and don't put Japan, Rep Korea, Iran and Aust in a group, no on will miss out that probably didn't deserve to go to the world cup. But the football in the region is strengthened by having another strong side.

england also lost to northen ireland recently in a qualifying game, one game means nothing. ofcourse australia aren't going to walk it, with all the 'talent' that they have, they have only this year managed to qualify for WC after ages. they will bring a new dimension to the asian game which can only be a good thing.
oh and welcome australia!

What the hell are you talking about?? Melbourne is the most multi cultural city in the world. Sure there is people against "Arabs" in this world but i wouldnt say Melbourne stands out for it. God people know nothing about the world.
There is more khareji's in Melb then Aussies probably. Some people need to get there facts straight before speaking.

I know a few ppl (Iranians) who came from Australia (to Canada) and I've heard nothing but good things from them, but again the most multicultural city in the world is not Melbourne or London, it's Toronto, and that's according to UNESCO.

All teams will have to work hard to qualify.
since k.s.a always pays lots of $$$ to get in and s.korea has won over us just as many times as we have won over them, Japan seem to be the asian champ and has shown they got what it takes to win over us.
yet we have shown that we can not win over australia and can only tie them.
now with more good teams it means that we will see more good games yet if we still have 4.5 spots for the world cup then this makes it hard on us because as we know the arab teams work together just like bahrain and k.s.a. worked together 8 years ago to keep us out.
and when we will be in a group with k.s.a, bahrain, s.korea, u.a.e. it will become very hard for us as we always have hard time playing against the arabs.
when we become the 0.5 spot for asia then we will go up against a good team from euro and that is were it will be all over for us just like 8 years ago.

yet i distinctly remember racist chants v. iranians in melbourne & the australian crowd booing the iranian national anthem ... if u all want to defend australians then so be it ..

australia won't be a problem by then because:
1) Kaabi, nekounam, mobali and the other EXTREMELY OVERRATED players we have will be 4 years older and eventually live up to the hype and karimi, hash and kia the only players we have who are actually as good as advertised will be our experienced leaders.
2) a better coach than branco will be in charge... I mean hopefully!:D

Australia is soo different to England its not funny and as for Anglo Saxon's, you dont notice them because there is soo many diverse ppl.

They will not ruin our chances of qualifying. Rather, they will make Iran raise their game even more and improve the quality of the awful confederation we play in. I for one welcome Australia and look forward to high quality, entertaining games against them.
Oh, and if Australia's inclusion means that some undeserving "nation" like Bahrain or Qatar (who seem to think they can buy international players) have less chance of getting to the world cup....then that can only be a good thing.

Yes, I know the pain. The aggregate loss against Ireland in Azadi was quite possibly the most depressing day of my life.
However, if we fail to qualify for South Africa 2010 we only have ourselves, our incompetent biorzeh players and federation to blame...not Australia. To take Kazakhstan as an example, I would prefer us to be playing with tough opposition and not getting results than playing some "mickey mouse teams" and doing well. This is a bit of an over simplification, but I think you will understand the gist of what I am saying. In the long term, playing teams like Australia and possible losing is much better for our football than playing Maldives and winning 19-0.
I do see exactly what your point is though and I would not wish for Iran to be eliminated because of a game against Australia...but if it does happen, that's football and we just have to deal with it and look at the weaknesses in our team, to see why such a thing would occur.

I would not worry too much, 2010 is still a few years away.
Who knows what will happen ....
But like someone else said there is going to be a bigger share for Asia.
There will be at least 5 instead of 4.5(play-off).
top 2 of each group plus best overall thid qualifying automatic.
If we are not even third between lets say Australia,S.korea,Bahrain,Iran,N.krea then we don't belong in the world cup of 2010.
